Ablekuma North Election Violence: Two Arrested Over Attack Ahead of July 25 Rerun

Accra, Ghana — Tension is mounting in the Ablekuma North Constituency as two men have been arrested in connection with violent disruptions ahead of the constituency’s crucial rerun election scheduled for Friday, July 25.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspects were apprehended after allegedly attacking voters with cutlasses during a political rally on Tuesday. The incident took place at a polling station where rival groups of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed.
Police Response:
Superintendent Grace Ansah-Akrofi confirmed the arrests, stating, “We’re treating this matter with urgency. Investigations are ongoing, and we will ensure peace on election day.”
Electoral Commission Reacts:
The Electoral Commission condemned the violence, promising tighter security and fair voting processes. Military officers have since been deployed across the constituency.
