Abia Intensifies Cleanup: More Unauthorized Structures Pulled Down in Umuahia

Story: written Zara April 27,2026
The Abia State Government has continued its urban enforcement drive with the demolition of additional unauthorized structures at Ubakala Junction in Umuahia South Local Government Area.

The structures removed included makeshift stalls, containers, wooden tables, shanties, and building projections that were said to violate city planning regulations. The operation follows a similar exercise carried out about two weeks earlier by the Umuahia Capital Development Authority, which cleared illegal shops and shanties around the ShopRite axis of the state capital.

Security personnel were present at the latest demolition site to maintain order as the exercise progressed.

At the scene, several affected occupants were seen retrieving remnants of their belongings from the debris, while others called for support and assistance from government bodies and well-meaning individuals to cushion their losses.

In a related development, authorities have begun fencing and beautification work at previously cleared locations near the ShopRite area, as part of efforts to improve the city’s outlook and enforce compliance with urban planning standards.
