Abia Government Denies Otti’s Defection to APC, Says Governor Remains Loyal to Labour Party

The Abia State Government has refuted claims that Governor Alex Otti has abandoned the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the rumour as baseless and politically motivated.

The speculation surfaced after photos circulated online showing Governor Otti visiting Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, shortly before Mbah’s defection to the APC. Some individuals had alleged that the meeting signaled Otti’s plan to join the ruling party.

Addressing the reports on Monday, Abia’s Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, dismissed the story as a deliberate fabrication by political opponents seeking to mislead the public.

“Governor Alex Otti remains a loyal and proud member of the Labour Party — the same platform through which Abians overwhelmingly elected him,” Kanu stated.

He emphasized that the governor’s attention is fully on rebuilding Abia, promoting transparency, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all citizens of the state.

Kanu urged residents to ignore the false reports, describing them as “cheap political propaganda aimed at distracting the administration.”
