A Widower’s Card Got ‘Swallowed’ By a Zenith Bank ATM. He Lost N217,600 Within 10 Mins

Nurudeen Olalekan, a Lagos State resident, was about to withdraw some money from a Zenith Bank ATM when his debit card got stuck in one of the machines.
Olalekan, a widower, told FIJ that within 10 minutes of waiting to see whether the card could still come out from the machine, he received several debit alerts, amounting to N217,600
Olalekan, a Polaris Bank customer, said he decided to make the withdrawal at Zenith Bank because it was the closest to him.
He added that the incident happened around 7:00 am at the bank’s branch located at Onipanu area of the state on November 21.
After receiving the strange debit alerts, Olalekan entered the bank to talk to some of its officials about the incident.
“The branch manager could not proffer any solution. Till now, they have not done anything about it. He told me he could not do anything about it,” Olalekan said.
“In fact, the bank has not provided my ATM card since then. They also did not allow me to have access to their CCTV footage.
It is sad that the bank would do this to me. I am only a widower managing all by myself.”
When FIJ contacted Zenith Bank for comments on the issue, one of its officials, who preferred not to be named, asked that Olalekan lodge the complaint himself.
“Kindly advise the customer to contact us for due assistance. Inform the account holder to liaise with us via our verified social media platforms or reach us through a phone call,” the official wrote
