PUNCH Metro reported that a source said the kidnappers ambushed the vehicles carrying the travellers and led them into a nearby bush in the Uke area of Nasarawa State. The source also mentioned that a Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa student who was among the victims was on her way to visit her family in Abuja.

A driver who escaped the attack alerted the police. The source stated, “Thirty persons were kidnapped between Nasarawa and Abuja on Friday

“The passengers were taken from two buses into the bush near Uke in Nasarawa State. One of the passengers is an HND student of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, returning to Abuja to see her family.

“One of the bus drivers escaped, recovered some items including a victim’s phone, and reported the incident to the police in Uke.”

When contacted, Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer Rahman Nansel confirmed the incident, noting that three victims had been rescued and a search and rescue operation was ongoing.

He clarified that the number of abducted persons was fewer than 30, with an 18-seater bus recovered at the scene.

“The number (30) was exaggerated. An 18-seater bus was recovered at the scene and three people were rescued. A search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” Nansel said.
