2027: Tinubu Firmly Controls South — Jonathan, Peter Obi Can’t Defeat Him If They Contest, Says Dele Momodu

Veteran journalist and opposition coalition member, Dele Momodu, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu would easily defeat any southern challenger, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, if they contest against him in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Momodu stated that Tinubu has already “locked down” Southern Nigeria politically, making it extremely difficult for any southern candidate to pose a real threat.
He advised the opposition to focus its strategy on securing strong support from the North if it hopes to remain competitive in the next election cycle.
“I still choose to be a chronic optimist even at this stage. Several scenarios may still play out. The opposition has only one option left — to lock down the North,” Momodu wrote.
According to him, it would be unrealistic for any southern politician, including Jonathan or Obi, to expect success running against Tinubu, as the current president’s political influence and control in the South appear deeply entrenched.
“Tinubu has already locked down the South. I don’t see any southern candidate — not former President Jonathan, not former Governor Peter Obi — giving him a serious challenge. If they contest, they will fail spectacularly,” he added.
