Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has ruled out any possibility of aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to secure the governorship seat in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, Rhodes-Vivour said such an alliance would be meaningless and contrary to his vision for Lagos.

“I will rather focus on my business, my work, and my family than align with Tinubu. That would be a complete waste of time,” he declared.

According to him, his mission in politics is to restore Lagos to its former glory and to ensure that the state’s commonwealth is used to improve the lives of its residents.

“We are in politics to serve the people of Lagos, to restore its lost greatness. Any political platform that does not allow me to maximise the resources of Lagos for its citizens is a waste of time,” he stressed.

Rhodes-Vivour also criticised what he described as the domination of “agberocracy” in Lagos, saying the state would be far better off without such a system.

The politician, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), confirmed that the move was made with the knowledge of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

When asked if he would be contesting the 2027 Lagos governorship election under the ADC, Rhodes-Vivour responded:

“By God’s grace, yes.”

With his defection, Rhodes-Vivour signaled his readiness to challenge the ruling party head-on, setting the stage for a heated political contest in Lagos ahead of 2027.
