Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he is willing to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger, vibrant, and widely acceptable candidate emerges to lead the opposition.

Atiku, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the statement during an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday.

According to him, his interest in the 2027 election is not driven by personal ambition but by the urgent need to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to the current administration.

“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku said.

He urged Nigerian youths to take active roles in politics, stressing that he would throw his full support behind a younger candidate capable of uniting the opposition and rescuing Nigeria from what he described as years of misrule.

Atiku also dismissed claims that he is desperate for power, insisting that his political struggle is solely about rebuilding the nation and giving Nigerians hope for a better future.
