The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue South Senatorial District received a major political boost on Saturday, October 11, 2025, as hundreds of members from opposition parties — including the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP) — defected to the PDP during a rally in Ogoli-Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area.
Leading the decampees was Chief Barrister Isaac Oduh, former senatorial candidate of the NNPP, who declared alongside his supporters their decision to join the PDP. He cited the visionary leadership and inclusive politics of Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South, as their major reason for switching allegiance.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Oduh said:
“Senator Moro’s leadership has shown that politics is about service, not self-interest. We are confident that the PDP remains the most organized and people-focused party in Benue and across Nigeria. We have come home and will work for total victory in 2027.”
Welcoming the defectors, Benue State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chief Ezekiel Adaji, promised them full integration and equal opportunity in the party, commending Senator Moro’s efforts in building unity and strengthening the PDP’s structure across Zone C.
Similarly, Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, member representing Adoka/Ugboju in the Benue State House of Assembly, described the defection as “a bold and wise decision,” adding that the PDP remains “a true home for all believers in progress and people-oriented governance.”
In his remarks, Senator Abba Moro expressed delight over the mass defection, describing it as evidence of the people’s renewed faith in the PDP. He assured the new members of fair treatment and reiterated his commitment to inclusive representation, youth empowerment, and grassroots development.
The defection rally also featured a distribution of wheelchairs to persons with disabilities across the nine local government areas in Benue South. Senator Moro, who personally presented the items, emphasized that “there is ability in disability” and reaffirmed his dedication to supporting vulnerable groups regardless of physical or social limitations.
Addressing party members, Senator Moro urged unity among PDP aspirants in Adoka/Ugboju ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party’s success depends on collective strength and internal peace.
“We must remember that the wisdom of man is foolishness before God. Let humility and cooperation guide our actions,” he said.
He also condemned the continued marginalization of Benue South (Zone C) in federal appointments and infrastructure, calling on authorities to ensure equity, inclusion, and fair representation.
The event was attended by top PDP leaders including Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, Hon. Isaac Ochekiye, Hon. Alice Albert (PDP Women Leader), Rt. Hon. Solomon Onah, Hon. Edor Ogbole, Hon. Amina Audu, Hon. Emmanuel Adokwu, Hon. Charles Onoja, Hon. Mohammed Adama, and Hon. Stephen Akatu, among others.
