Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not rely on federal power or coercion to take control of Abia State in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Umuahia on Sunday during a meeting with members of the Renewed Hope Partners and other APC supporters, Kalu emphasized that the party’s victory would come through the will of the people expressed in their votes.

“We are not going to take over this state by force. Some people think we plan to use federal power, but that is not true. We will take over Abia with the votes of the masses,” Kalu declared.

The Deputy Speaker urged Abia residents, especially APC members, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to obtain their voter’s cards, stressing that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains the key to changing leadership in 2027.

Kalu also took a swipe at the Labour Party-led administration in Abia State, accusing it of underperformance despite receiving higher monthly allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). He argued that previous governors, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu, achieved more with far less.

According to him, “The present government receives more funds than past administrations, yet there’s little to show for it. Abia deserves better governance, and APC is ready to deliver it.”

Kalu further stated that Abians were ready to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing the president’s achievements and ongoing financial support to states, including Abia.

He also revealed that some critics in Abia had attacked him for speaking truth to power but vowed to continue playing his role as “the leader of the opposition in the state,” committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring good governance.
