The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that it is too early to endorse any presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections, amid growing speculation linking top political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi to its presidential ticket.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary, clarified that the ADC is currently focused on building a strong and credible political structure rather than engaging in early campaign talks or candidate endorsements.

“We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates at the moment. We are not having any conversation about who will become the party’s flag bearer,” Abdullahi stated.

“We believe it is too early in the day. Our focus now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission we’ve set for ourselves.”

ADC Distances Itself from 2027 Candidate Rumors

Despite ongoing rumors that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi are eyeing the ADC presidential ticket, the party insists that no formal consultations or declarations have taken place.

The three high-profile politicians are currently seen as potential beneficiaries of a united third-force movement, but none have officially declared their interest under the ADC platform.

Party Prioritizing Grassroots Mobilization

Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC’s current priority is internal restructuring, nationwide mobilization, and grassroots engagement to prepare the party for future electoral contests.

Political analysts believe ADC may play a strategic role in the 2027 elections as Nigerians explore alternatives to the dominant parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

As the political climate continues to heat up ahead of 2027, the ADC is urging supporters and the public to disregard unconfirmed reports and remain focused on the party’s development agenda.
