Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State has publicly declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing him as a capable and visionary leader.
The endorsement was made by the group’s President General, Chief Sunday Udeh, during a reconciliation meeting organized by Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (popularly known as Jandor), leader of the Lagos4Lagos Movement. The meeting was aimed at strengthening unity between Yoruba and Igbo residents following recent tensions over demolitions in the state.
Speaking at the event, Chief Udeh urged both ethnic groups to maintain peace, mutual understanding, and cooperation, warning against divisive sentiments. He described President Tinubu as “a seasoned administrator who understands governance deeply and deserves another term in 2027.”
He said, “We are confident that our party, the APC, will win again in 2027. Governor Tinubu has shown the capacity to lead, and we will continue to support him.”
Udeh also appealed to the Lagos State Government to continue engaging the Igbo community and other ethnic groups to foster inclusiveness and harmony.
Deacon Charles Obih, National President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria (TMLAN), also expressed the Igbo business community’s readiness to mobilize for Tinubu’s re-election. “We will work hard to ensure his victory because he is a leader who has faced Nigeria’s challenges with courage,” he stated.
In his remarks, Dr. Okey Anorue, Eze Ndigbo of Igbogbo/Bayeku and Babaloja of Tejuosho Market, called for unity between the Yoruba and Igbo communities in Lagos. He urged Igbos to respect the culture of their host community and avoid being used by politicians to fuel ethnic tension.
“We need a peaceful environment to thrive. The Yoruba are our hosts, and mutual respect is the key to progress,” Anorue said.
