2027: ADC Risks Irrelevance Without Peter Obi – Fayose Warns

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could become politically irrelevant if it does not field former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

In an exclusive interview with Arise Television, Fayose described Obi as the party’s main political asset, arguing that other figures in the ADC lack the capacity to generate significant national traction.

“Peter Obi is the life of ADC. I’m not saying there are no others, but the rest are largely spent forces,” Fayose said. He stressed that Obi’s influence was clear during the 2023 elections, when his candidacy under the Labour Party helped the party win House of Representatives seats despite its previously limited presence nationwide.

Fayose noted that Obi’s appeal goes beyond party platforms, asserting that he would attract similar support even if he ran on the ticket of a smaller party.

“I’m not predicting whether Obi will win or lose in 2027,” he clarified, “but ADC’s position will be far worse if they fail to present him as their candidate.”

He further warned that sidelining Obi would severely weaken the party’s political relevance. “Even if Obi joins another party, he is the only person in ADC that matters. Without him, the party’s case will be worse than the challenges of its formation,” Fayose added.
