South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has taken a swipe at the Super Eagles after their 1-1 draw in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
The Bafana Bafana boss watched his side go ahead in the 22nd minute when William Troost-Ekong’s own goal put Nigeria behind, before Calvin Bassey equalised for Eric Chelle’s men before halftime.
Both sides struggled to find a breakthrough in the second half, settling for a point apiece.
Speaking after the match, Broos mocked Nigeria’s approach, suggesting they relied too heavily on physicality rather than tactical play.
“It was a game like I expected. On my side, a team who wants to play football. On the other side, a team who tried to win the game by power,” Broos told reporters.
“We did very well in the first half, but Nigeria tried physical to come back – and they did.”
