Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, is determined to start his tenure on a winning note as Nigeria faces Rwanda in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, on Friday.

Chelle, who took charge of the three-time African champions in January, will lead the team for the first time in a competitive match. The Super Eagles arrived in Kigali on Monday and have had three training sessions in preparation for the must-win clash.

Super Eagles’ Qualification Struggle

Currently, Nigeria sits fifth in Group C with just three points from four games, making victory against Rwanda essential to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Chelle emphasized his commitment to the team’s progress:

“Every day I want to be with my players, stay with them, and focus on each game as it comes. Right now, our attention is on Rwanda; after this, we can think about the next match,” he said.

“We want to fight on the pitch. The players are ready to give their best for the fans and make Nigerians happy. Winning this game is crucial for our World Cup qualification.

The match is set to kick off at 5 PM Nigerian time as the Super Eagles aim to turn their campaign around under Chelle’s leadership.
