2024 Budget: Tinubu Not Ready For Nation Building — PRP

Dr. Falalu Bello, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), voiced strong criticism against President Bola Tinubu’s approach to nation-building, as reflected in the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N27.5 trillion presented to the National Assembly.

In a statement titled ‘The Appropriation Bill: Seeing Beyond Semantics,’ Bello argued that a closer examination of the budget reveals that the present administration prioritizes the interests of the wealthy rather than the collective good of the nation

“While the statistics may seem favourable on the surface, a thorough analysis of the underlying assumptions exposes that this administration is not yet prepared for nation-building. It remains a relic of the past, fiercely safeguarding the interests of a few oligarchs, lacking a clear path to the positive future our nation aspires to,” stated Bello. He pointed out that this continuation is not unexpected, given the advice against reelecting the APC for another eight years.

Bello further challenged the Tinubu government’s assertion of inheriting a bankrupt treasury, questioning its circumspection and seriousness in providing “renewed hope.” He criticized the administration for not aligning with prudent fiscal policies, especially considering the nation’s borrowing to fund recurrent expenses.

Governance as usual” was Bello’s critique, emphasizing the imprudence of maintaining a council of 48 ministers and numerous assistants and advisers when cost-cutting measures and stringent fiscal policies are imperative. He advocated for frugality, fiscal discipline, and the elimination of waste to manage the nation’s economy effectively.

As the 2024 budget comes under scrutiny, the PRP’s critique underscores the need for a more strategic and prudent approach to nation-building, challenging the current administration to prioritize the broader interests of the Nigerian populace over the interests of a select few
