At least 11 Nigerian soldiers are being held by the military authorities in Bobo-Dioulasso, southwestern Burkina Faso, following an emergency landing of their aircraft after allegedly breaching AES airspace.
The incident was confirmed by the Agence d’Information du Burkina (AES) in a statement shared on X by security analyst Brant Grant on Monday evening.
According to AES, a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft entered Burkinabe airspace without authorization, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Bobo-Dioulasso. The statement further warned that any unauthorized aircraft entering AES-controlled airspace would be neutralized.
The development comes shortly after the Nigerian government deployed military aircraft to Benin Republic on Sunday in response to a recent attempted coup in the neighboring country, highlighting heightened regional security tensions.
