The Independent National Electoral Commission has earmarked over ₦12 billion for the production of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and ₦500 million for hand sanitisers as part of its proposed ₦873.78 billion budget for the 2027 general elections.
The spending plan, presented to the National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters in Abuja, covers PVC printing for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), election materials, logistics, technology, and health-related items for polling-day operations.
INEC’s estimates show ₦12.29 billion allocated for PVCs, ₦359.88 million for methylated spirit, and ₦450.24 million for cotton wool and related supplies. The commission also proposed ₦1.25 billion for vehicle maintenance to support nationwide logistics and ₦300 million for political party retreats ahead of the polls.
Presenting the proposal, INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan said preparations for the 2027 elections are already underway in line with statutory requirements. He explained that the total budget is split across election operations, administration, technology, capital projects, and miscellaneous costs, with a significant portion devoted to election technology and materials.
Amupitan stressed that early and adequate funding is critical to delivering credible elections across Nigeria, noting that many capital items have been captured under the 2027 election plan.
