The process of Lionel Messi‘s departure from Barcelona is becoming a chess game in which everyone at the Camp Nou must move with caution, yet the Blaugrana have been dealt a blow in trying to convince their star to stay as Messi does not want to meet with club .president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
All of this has come after Messi sent a burofax to Barcelona on Tuesday evening stating his desire to leave for free, which the club responded to by stating that the clause to free himself from his contract is no longer valid and that he has a 700 million euro release clause.
Ramon Planes, Barcelona‘s new sporting director, made a public statement in which he assured that the club are not contemplating Messi’s departure and that a series of movements would be made internally.
One of them was for Bartomeu to meet with Messi as the president wants to speak with the player directly and try to convince him not to leave, but the Argentine does not plan on talking to the president.
Messi‘s decision is irrevocable. He has already decided to leave and he intends to stick to that position.
What he does plan to do is to go to Barcelona‘s training complex on Sunday to take the relevant PCR tests, which all of the squad will be subjected to.
The 33-year-old also plans to train next Monday, August 31, under the orders of Ronald Koeman in what will be the coach’s first training session since becoming Barcelona head coach.
Until the dispute over his contract is solved, Messi wants to give the feeling of normality and, as such, he will go to the club’s training ground.
It should not be forgotten that he has a contract in force with Barcelona at the moment, even though he has asked for it to be rescinded
