The operatives of the Ijede Police Division have arrested one Isaac Ayidessa, who was alleged to have fled Oke-Eletu in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State after reportedly defrauding one Bilewu Gbolahan of N3,375,000 on the pretext of procuring motorcycles for him.
Ayidessa was said to have obtained the money in parts between April 2018 and February 2019, after which he allegedly fled without delivering the motorcycles.
Ayidessa was arraigned before the Ijede Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday on three counts of obtaining money under false pretences, stealing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Aminu Isaac, said Ayidessa obtained N3,375,000 from Gbolahan to buy motorcycles, adding that the offences contravened Section 278 and was punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The charges read in part, “That you, Isaac Ayidessa, between the month of April 2018 and February 2019 at Oke-Eletu, Ijede in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of N3,375,000 from one Bilewu Gbolahan on the pretext of buying motorcycles for him, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 312 (1a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
“That you, Isaac Ayidessa, on the same date, time and place at the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal the sum of N3,375,000 belonging to one Bilewu Gbolahan, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 278 and punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
The presiding magistrate, Mrs A. Oshodi-Makanju, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She added that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Oshodi-Makanju adjourned the case to May 7, 2019.
